Are there certain medical conditions that would not benefit from massage?

While massage therapy can offer relief for many, there are certain chronic conditions where it may not be recommended or should be approached with caution. These conditions include:

  1. Severe osteoporosis: Fragile bones can be at risk of fractures with deep pressure or manipulation during massage therapy.
  2. Blood clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT): Massaging over areas where blood clots are present can increase the risk of the clot traveling to the lungs, heart, or brain.
  3. Severe cardiovascular issues: Individuals with heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or recent heart surgery should consult their doctor before getting a massage, as it can affect circulation.
  4. Skin infections or rashes: Areas with open wounds, infections, or skin conditions should not be massaged as it could exacerbate the problem or spread infection.
  5. Acute injuries or inflammation: For recent injuries, inflammation, or acute conditions such as sprains or strains, massage may worsen the symptoms and delay healing.
  6. Severe neuropathy: For those with severe nerve damage or conditions like diabetes where neuropathy is present, massage could cause discomfort or worsen symptoms.

Always consult with a healthcare provider before beginning massage therapy if you have any chronic conditions or concerns to ensure it is safe for your specific health needs.

Appointments begin promptly as scheduled, hence should you arrive late, your appointment will be shortened to allow the Licensed Massage Therapist to be on time for his/her next appointment. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to appointment time.

Please notify our staff at the time of booking if you have a gender preference. Online self booking will allow you to select an appointment with your preferred therapist.

Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.

Any minor (under the age of 18) wanting a massage must have a parent/guardian present in the room for the duration of the massage treatment.

We ask that you please reschedule or cancel your massage treatment at least 24 hours before the beginning of your scheduled appointment time. Failing to do so will result in a cancellation fee of 50% of the price of your scheduled massage treatment. A credit card is required to guarantee payment for all appointments and reservations.

  1. Cancellation Requests: Customers may submit cancellation requests for services by calling and speaking to a staff member at the salon.
  2. Cancellation Timeframe: Customers must submit cancellation requests at least 24 hours before their scheduled massage treatment service date and time.
  3. Refund Eligibility: Refunds for cancelled services will be determined on a case by case basis. Customers may be eligible for a full or partial refund, depending on the circumstances and the services rendered up to the cancellation date.
  4. Cancellation Fees: In the event of a customer’s cancellation request outside of the specified timeline, customers will be subject to cancellation fees. These fees will be communicated to customers upon submitting their cancellation request and will be deducted from any eligible refund.

After a massage treatment, taking proper care of yourself at home can help maximize the benefits and ensure a smooth recovery. Here are some key recommendations for home care:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Massage therapy can help release toxins stored in the muscles, so drinking plenty of water after a session helps flush these toxins from your system and supports muscle recovery.
  2. Rest and Relax: Allow your body time to adjust and fully absorb the effects of the massage. Resting for a while after your session can help your muscles relax even more and promote healing.
  3. Apply Heat or Cold: If you’re experiencing any soreness or stiffness, applying a warm compress or taking a warm bath can soothe muscles. Alternatively, cold packs can be used for any swelling or discomfort, especially if you have sensitive areas.
  4. Gentle Stretching: Light stretching can help maintain the flexibility and relaxation you achieved during the massage. Avoid any intense physical activities immediately after your session.
  5. Avoid Strenuous Exercise: For the first 24 hours following a massage, it’s best to avoid heavy workouts or strenuous activities to give your muscles time to recover and prevent any potential strain.
  6. Take Epsom Salt Baths: A warm bath with Epsom salts can further relax your muscles, reduce any lingering tension, and help ease soreness.
  7. Use Topical Creams or Oils: If recommended by your massage therapist, you may want to apply soothing creams, oils, or lotions to the muscles worked on during the session. These can help prolong the calming effects.
  8. Pay Attention to Your Body: If you feel any unusual pain or discomfort after your massage, it’s important to listen to your body. Mild soreness can be normal, but any severe discomfort should be addressed with your massage therapist or healthcare provider.

Following these steps can enhance the overall benefits of your massage and ensure a speedy recovery, leaving you feeling relaxed, revitalized, and refreshed.

Clients undergoing recent surgical procedures must get medical clearance by their surgeon to obtain treatment at our studio.  Full healing can take weeks to months and the type of surgery influences when and what type of massage is appropriate.
